Current Announcements:

All military branches grant all members a scholarship called the Montgomery GI Bill, which can be used while on active duty, and up to 15 years after enlistment.  The scholarship is currently $47,556.00 and increases annually.

AIR FORCE:

Minimum ASVAB score: A minimum score of 36 is needed to process into the Air Force; however, a score of 50 or higher will offer you a better job selection.

Air Force Basic Training—8 ˝ weeks.  All recruits go to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for Basic Training.

The Air Force is always looking for highly motivated, extremely marketable and qualified individuals.  When most people think of the Air Force as a future option, they think of pilots or flying.  This is a major misconception.  Only 3% of the entire Air Force are pilots.  The Air Force offers over 160 specific careers.

Staff Sergeant Brickell the Air Force recruiter for Cape Fear High school.  He can be contacted at: owen.brickell@RANDOLPH.AF.MIL or 910-483-8608

ARMY:

  Minimum ASVAB score: 31

Army Basic Training is 10 weeks long.  The first week is an administrative week and the following nine weeks are training weeks.  NC residents can go for Basic Training to several bases. Some of them are Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Jackson, SC; Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Fort Knox, KY; and Fort Benning, GA.

Only a felony arrest or multiple misdemeanor arrests and arrests for drug use permanently disqualify an individual.  Higher personnel evaluate most other cases, including medical conditions, for eligibility.  Most cases have waivers that can be granted.

The Army offers benefits far beyond most jobs in the civilian world to include 30 days paid vacation a year, free medical and dental care, 100% tuition assistance while on active duty, and the Montgomery GI Bill. A three-year enlistment would grant the individual the means to use the GI Bill at any college in America. This means that their tuition is paid and the individual would receive a monthly check for as long as they maintain full time status. This lasts for a 36-month academic term.

SGT Taylor is the Army recruiter for Cape Fear High school.  He can be contacted at:

Charles.taylor@usarec.army.mil or 910-483-7855 (office) or 877-280-1504 (work cell).
